How we test and rank

Ease of cocking (25%) - Draw weight and whether a crank or rope aid is included - the single biggest barrier for a first-time shooter.
Out-of-box accuracy (25%) - Group size at 20 and 40 yards using the bundled bolts and factory-sighted scope.
Safety and build (20%) - Anti-dry-fire, finger guards, trigger feel and how solid the rail and stirrup are.
What you actually get (20%) - Scope, quiver, bolts and cocking aid included versus sold separately.
Price for the package (10%) - Total cost to get shooting, not the headline price of the bare bow.

How the scores are built

Each crossbow is scored on five weighted criteria. Scores are set before any affiliate link is attached, and are revised when a model changes package contents or price tier.
